Mentoring Strengthens Faith

Mentoring gives people a practical place to live out their faith through presence, encouragement, prayer, patience, and consistency. Mentors often tell us they began because they wanted to help a young person—but discovered that God was also shaping them.

Meet Mentor Chris
When Chris, a member of Mission Hills Church, began mentoring Devon, he also developed a meaningful relationship with Devon’s family. After the family volunteered alongside Chris and his wife, they began asking questions about their church. Chris invited them to attend Mission Hills, and they joined the couple for a service—showing how one mentoring relationship can create a bridge between a family and a local church community.
Mentor Rick's Story
After his mentee was severely burned in a moped accident, Rick showed up day after day—sitting beside his hospital bed, offering comfort, and singing hymns with him. This is what it looks like to be the Church beyond Sunday morning. Through mentoring, congregants do not simply serve a young person; they are stretched in compassion, deepened in faith, and given the opportunity to live out the gospel in deeply personal ways. As Rick walked faithfully with his mentee through suffering, his own life and faith was strengthened. Rick is from Crossroads Church in Thornton.
